Hot Sauce is the the oldest of the children at the refugee school on New Rho, excluding Nona. She leads the gang, a group comprised of her and four other children: Honesty, Born in the Morning, Beautiful Ruby, and Kevin.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Hot Sauce's home planet was attacked by Cohort forces some time before her arrival on New Rho. Her older brothers and at least one cousin died in the warfare.
Hot Sauce chose the name because she "likes it" (meaning the condiment).
Nona the Ninth[]
Fiercely devoted in her hatred of the Houses, Hot Sauce despises even Blood of Eden for being "fat cats and zombie lovers." [2]
Appearance and Personality[]
Hot Sauce is described as "queenly" for her years, She has sustained substantial burns across her body. She hates necromancers and zombies for killing her brothers.

According to the other children, Hot Sauce likely admits Nona to the gang based on her elevated status as a teacher's aide, her proximity to Noodle, and her access to The Building. Hot Sauce seems to enjoy Nona's company.
Certain that their school is being watched by what she suspects are Cohort forces, Hot Sauce convinces Nona to pretend to talk on a radio when she takes Noodle for a walk again. Nona does this, playing at inviting someone to a birthday party, and it does garner a reaction, but not one that Hot Sauce expected.
Day Four[]
Hot Sauce and Nona skip out on school to go watch the broadcast put on by Prince Ianthe, but Nona is cut deeply as they try to make it back to safety. Hot Sauce is certain of Nona's injury, but is confused to find Nona uninjured, although covered in blood.
After begin forced to take refuge in the school, Hot Sauce witnesses Nona being shot. Hot Sauce is locked in the boiler room, but when a seemingly uninjured Nona later comes to ensure Hot Sauce is alright, the two have a tense conversation about Nona's affiliation with "zombies". This ends with Hot Sauce declaring Nona as being "out of the gang", and shoots her in the head.[3]
Day Five[]
Nona goes to Honesty's apartment to plead with him to tell her where he saw the convoy. Hot Sauce happens to be there, confiding with Honesty that Nona is a "zombie", but Honesty convinces Hot Sauce to talk to Nona due to Nona being concerned with Honesty's drug dealing business. She somewhat reluctantly points out the location on the Angel's map that Honesty stole from the classroom. The rift between Hot Sauce and Nona appears to mend when Nona asks why Hot Sauce chose her name. She allows her back in "the gang", but she is stuck on Kevin bathroom duty forever, as punishment for being a "zombie".[4]
